SALE TOWN BAND
Enthusiastic Annual Meeting Held
There was an excellent attendance at the annual meeting and social of the Sale Town Band at the A.N.A. Hall on Tuesday night. Matters pertaining to the welfare of the band received the enthusiastic support of those present, and augurs well for the future of the organisation.
The work done by the Band Committee and by the Ladies' Committee during the year reached a record height, but on account of high maintenance expenses, the band still requires funds. Cr. G. N. Valentine, who presided, apologised for the absence of the Mayor, who was engaged on other duties. He complimented the band and the committees on the excellent work during the year and hoped that the rate of progress would be maintained.
The treasurer (Mr. J. Fidler) presented the balance sheets, which showed that the financial position was satisfactory.
The new constitution was read and after a brief discussion was adopted. The president, Mr. C. H. Uebergang, said that during the year the band had acquitted itself really well. During his term as president, he had received great support from the old and new committee members. He hoped that the band would go from success to success and that younger players would maintain their interest.
The secretary, the treasurer and the bandmaster (Mr. J. Mc Lean) gave their reports and each speaker stressed the importance of close co-operation between players, committee and parents. The welfare of the band depended on the efforts of all interested. There was no reason why, with adequate support from the people, the band should not become one of the best in Victoria.
The election of officers resulted: President, Mr. L. Trimble; vice-presidents,. Messrs. M. McLeod and W. R. Bramwell; secretary, Mr. B. Sandford; treasurer, Mr. J. Fidler; auditor, Mr. A. Reece, and committee, Messrs. K. Crozier, L. Skeen, G. N. Valentine, A. Zeigler, and Mesdames Glover, Oakley and L. Trimble.
Following the meeting, a most enjoyable social was held. Artists who helped to make the social such a success included Miss Margaret Kingswell, and Messrs. Marj Fox, P. Jordan, Fred Connolly and Jack Grubb. A vote of thanks was accorded these artists. The young people of the Presbyterian Church are holding a concert on Friday night to help buy new windows for the School Hall. There will be individual items and a short play.
