As the re-establishment of a local Brass Band is on the table, the following information in regard to the finances of the Bairnsdale Citizens' Band will be of interest.
At the annual meeting of that body the balance sheet showed that the band was in a good financial position. The receipts for the period ended September 30th totalled £153/19/6, the special items being band engagements, £47/16/; town subscriptions, £45/11/; members' subscriptions, £33/6/6; and Bairnsdale Shire Council's allocation for repairs, £15. The expenditure included the following:-Bandmaster's salary, £51; purchase of instruments, £1 12/6; repairs to same, £15; band account, £10/11/4; and music, £9/11/8. The credit balance stood at £26/8/5.
Prior to the adoption of the balance sheet, Mr. Munday desired to know whether there should not have been a donation from the Shire Council included in the statement?
Bandmaster White intimated that so far no grant had been made, but he had been told that it only wanted someone to whisper the matter into the shire president's ear and that gentleman would be sure to donate something out of his presidential allowance.
The band started the year with 35 players, and, after some had left for various reasons, now numbers 28, who apparently are permanent members.
