Sale Patriotic Band Annual Meeting 1917
There was a good attendance at the annual meeting of the Sale Patriotic Band, held at the Council Chambers on Wednesday night last. Mr G. Kelsey occupying the chair. The annual report disclosed that the Band was formed two years ago for the purpose of assisting patriotic and charitable causes free of charge, which they have done up to the present. During the past year the band has had a busy time, having turned out to 121 performances and practices, made up as follows: 52 practices, 33 performances for patriotic and charitable causes, 36 picture shows and other engagements. There are now 18 playing members, and Bandmaster W. Herron has a number of boys in training. They will be of great assistance in a short time. The trophy for best attendance was won by C. Cattran who attended 49 practices out of the 52 for the year. The committee would be glad if someone would donate a trophy for the coming year by way of encouraging the younger members to attend. Only two donations were received for the year - one from the Mayor and the other from Mr F. E. Benussi. The bandmaster has rendered splendid service and with the exception of a fortnight at Lakes Entrance has not been absent from one performance. He is still conducting the band free of charge. The Band has a credit balance in the State Savings Bank of £30 8s 1d. It is hoped the incoming Mayor will follow the example set by Crs. Lyon and Futcher with regard to the band and it is hoped the la.,,s associated with the past work will be continued. H. A.rchibald, hon.

The Chairman, in moving the adoption of the report and balance sheet referred in eugolistic terms to the work done by the Bandmaster and Secretary, who had been assiduous in their efforts to keep the band going, and had succeeded so well notwithstanding a good deal of apathy displayed by the public as well as adverse criticism. The Chairman's remarks were supported by Messrs Breheny vice president E. A. Mitchell and R. Wood.
It was decided that the hon Bandmaster be granted an honourarium of £18, and the hon sec £8.
It was decided that a members evening be held on a date to be fixed to which donors to the funds would be invited. The meeting terminated with a vote of thanks to the chairman and the vice presidents Messrs M. Brehany and J. M. Paul.
