Free Garden Concert

STRIKE up the band . . . Sale City Band will showcase its talent during a concert at the Sale Botanical Gardens this Sunday.
SALE City Band does much more than just marching.
To showcase the talents of its many young and not so young members, the band will perform a free musical concert at Sale Botanical Gardens on Sunday from 4pm.
Guest artist will be singer Kathryn Barton.
A barbecue will be held after the concert with proceeds to support the band.

CONTRIBUTIONS recognised ... Chris Riley, Courtney Lawless, Karl Henkel, Carol Morriss, Terina Davies and Louise Mowat.

SALE City Band recently held its annual presentation night. The entertaining evening had good audience attendance.

The learner and training bands also performed, highlighting some of their talented young players.

Awards were presented to: Carol Morris, the Doug Tulip best attendance award; Courtney Lawless, Len Pendlebury Memorial most improved player; Alexander Ford, most improved learner; Chris Riley, George Brown Memorial award; Louise Mowat, band person of the year; Terina Davies and Louise Mowat, merit badge for 10 years service; Karl Henkel, youth service award for five years of service; Malcolm Morris, best attendance at the concert band; Matthew and Ben Lawless, best attendance at the training band, and Fraser Ford, best attendance at the learners band.

The bands are still out spreading Christmas cheer, and will play at the Sale Canal Sunday Variety Charity Market on Sunday, as well as various carol services including Stratford on Sunday and Heyfield on Monday.

The band will also draw its Christmas raffle at Heyfield.

Tickets can be purchased from the Sunday market and at any of the carol services, with proceeds to support the band.

Listen out for more of the band's twilight concerts in 2005 including Victoria Park on February 20 and the Port of Sale on March 20.
