Band Concert

SALE City Band will provide residents with an opportunity to hear it in concert on Sunday.

Beginning at 7:30 pm in Sale Memorial Hall, the band will present a program of varied music.

Appearing with the band will be instrumental soloists, singers and the Sale City Concert Band.

Admission is $10 family, $5 adult, $3 student-pensioner.

Band Busy

SALE City Band has been having a busy time lately, performing throughout Gippsland at a variety of functions.

Apart from Sunday's well received concert in Sale Memorial Hall the band gave a concert in Heyfield as part of the 150th anniversary celebrations on October 11 and on October 13 members took part in a concert to rriark the diamond jubilee of the Victorian Bands' League.

Earlier this month it provided music at an Octoberfest night at Tinamba Hotel.

Surprise 90th Birthday

HAPPY birthday ... Mr Len Pendlebury looks on in surprise at the Sale City Band together with Maffra Pipe Band who called in on him to with him a happy 90th birthday.

RESIDENTS in Valentine Cres Sale were starlted to hear pipe and band music playing in their street on Saturday.

The Sale City Band and the Macalister Highlanders pip band joine together to honour Mr Len Pendlebury's birthday.

Mr Pendlebury, who has been a Sale City Band member for 63 years, and is also a life member, was surprised when the Macalister Highlanders marched around the corner and played for about 15 minutes in front of his daughter's house.

From the opposite direction the Sale band marched in to join the recital.

A fit looking Mr Pendlebury received congratulations from the Prime Minister Mr Paul Keating, Victorian Premier Mr Jeff Kennett and members of pariliament.

 

Annual band concert soon

SALE City Band will present its annual Concert in the Sale Memorial on November 8 starting at 7:30 p.m., sponsored by the Sale and District Arts Council.
The concert will feature the Sale City Band and the Sale City Junior Concert Band as they present a variety of music which ranges from classics through to music from the latest of the musical shows.
The concert will also feature Vivian Mathers as a guest artist.
Throughout the year both bands play for a number of social and civic functions.
Altogether over 50 local musicians will take part.  The majority of these musicians have received their training in music through the band.
This perfomance "In Concert" provides the opportunity for the bands to display their versatility as they present a program of music guaranteed to please.
The program will be presented by 3GI's Saturday presenter Anne McKay, with music director Hugh Davies as conductor.
Proceeds for the evening will go towards upgrading  instrumnets and the promotion of musical skills within the district.
Tickets for the evening can be obtained from band members, JR Framing and Art, Stohers Music Store,  and at the door.
