Band Extends

Gippsland Times 4 July 1946

Reporting to the Sale Town Council on Monday night, Cr. R. G. Howard said that he had been informed that the Sale Band had grown considerably under the influence of the bandmaster (Mr. McLean). It was stated that there were 54 juniors receiving instructions and the time would not be far distant when the town would have a band of which it could be well proud. It was decided to send a letter of congratulations to the bandmaster.

Visit to South Street

Gippsland Times 14 October 1948

Sale Town Band Making History

The Sale Town Band, after a fine record in Gippsland district competitions will face open classes for the first time when they reach South Street at the end of the month. It will be the first occasion that the Sale Band has ever visited South Street and every supporter wishes the members success in the venture. The Band will leave Sale on October 23rd and be away for about ten days.

During the past few months the Band, under the direction of Bandmaster J. McLean has been practicing assiduously and has reached a high standard. Should they be successful it will be a high honour to the town.

The fact that the Band has reached a standard sufficiently high to be able to compete, speaks volumes for the work of the committee and the ladies. The ladies deserve high tribute because of the work they have carried out to secure funds for the Band over the past year.

Owing to the fact that the Band will be away it has been decided to hold the usual community, singing night on Sunday next instead of the following Sunday. An at tractive programme has been arranged, and it is likely that there will be a large attendance. This will show the Band that the people of Sale are appreciative of a work the bandsmen and the committee are doing.

First South Street Competitions

Gippsland Times 28 October 1948

For the first time in history, the Sale Town Band is competing at South Street. This appearance is the culmination of months of assiduous practice under the direction of Bandmaster J. McLean and others who have assisted with marching and counter-marching drill.

The boys have performed most creditably in Gippsland band contests and it was the success in this sphere which gave the higher aspirations. The players and quite a few supporters left on Sunday.

Parents have been keenly interested in the band during the past two years and the committee, both general and ladies, deserve great praise for the manner in which they have raised funds, firstly to equip the players with uniforms and to repair and replace instruments and then to gather sufficient money to enable the band to make the trip to Ballarat.

When the band returns to Sale, the citizens will be presented with an opportunity to show their appreciation of the players and the committee. The community singing nights will be resumed and the band will give performances in support of various town and district functions. Plans are also in hand for recitals during the summer months.
